FAI Announces CIAM Legends Award for 3x Winners in Modeling

59 Winners to Be Announced Later This Year

The Fédération Aéronautique International has begun awarding a new medal to 3-time world championship winners in aero and spacemodeling - the CIAM Legends medal.

The award goes to those individuals who have won the FAI World Championship at least 3 times, without a need for their victories to be consecutive wins. Groups are not eligible for the CIAM Legends Medal, and the wins can be drawn from any class in the ‘aeromodeling’ and ‘spacemodeling’ categories. Owing to its introduction this year, the FIA will be handing out the CIAM Legends medal to 59 winners, with the majority of them being drawn from American pilots. The FIA is still doing some organizing in notifying winners, so the full list remains undisclosed. The awardees will be released at the FAI General Conference’s Opening Ceremony, scheduled for October 26-27 in Dayton, Ohio.

“The CIAM Legends Medal, established by the FAI Aeromodeling Commission (or CIAM, owing to the French grammar used by the FIA) in 2022, will be presented for the first time this year. This significant award aims to acknowledge the exceptional contributions of the most skilled aeromodelers and spacemodelers. It also seeks to recognize these individuals as icons of their sport for all aspiring pilots, who demonstrate the hard work, dedication, and passion required to achieve greatness in air sports.”
