Wings Over The Rockies Announces Season 6 Of Behind The Wings

Emmy-Nominated PBS Series Explores Exciting Aerospace Stories

Wings Over the Rockies announces the premier of Season 6 of their Emmy-nominated television series Behind the Wings on Rocky Mountain PBS on Thursday November 7 at 7:30 p.m. MDT.

Additional episodes will air on consecutive Thursdays and Sundays in November and December. The latest episodes of Behind the Wings explore some of the most exciting stories in aerospace, from the use of AI in military aviation to two massive aircraft that have incorporated the latest innovations.

The 4-episode season explores the Super Guppy cargo transport aircraft that helped America win the space race to the Moon in the 1960s. That was because the only other way to transport rocket components and parts and in particular, the second stage of the Saturn rocket that was built in North American Aviation’s Vehicle Assembly Building in California to be used in the Apollo program. It also transports the Stratolaunch Roc, the world’s largest operating aircraft.

Maj. Gen. John Barry, U.S. Air Force (Ret), Wings Over the Rockies’ President and CEO said, “We are excited to be sharing Season 6 of Behind the Wings with public television viewers. This new season takes viewers on an exhilarating journey to the cutting edge of aerospace.”

Behind the Wings has garnered a total of 80 million views on YouTube in its lifetime from all around the globe and has aired in more than 100 PBS markets in the U.S. It is directed by Emmy-nominated filmmaker Cray Novick and hosted by Colorado’s first lady fighter pilot Tracy "JackieO" LaTourette.

Wings Over the Rockies has a wonderful collection of aircraft including several military jets of the "Century" series. It is located in Denver, Colorado, in Hangar 1 on the site of the former Lowry Air Force Base.
