Low-Cost UK Carrier Flybe To Close Six Bases

Will Continue To Serve Airports As Jobs Are Cut

As part of its effort to "reduce redundancies" which will result in the loss of some 500 positions, the UK low-cost carrier Flybe announced it will close six airport bases, but will continue to serve those airports.

The bases slated for closure include Aberdeen, Guernsey, Inverness, Isle of Man, Jersey, and Newcastle, according to Buying Business Travel online.

Flybe CEO Saad Hammad said the airline is "committee to connecting the UK's regions and we intend to continue flying to these airports after the base closures."

The carrier has also announced the cuts it plans to make at each of its 13 current bases. The airline is also negotiating with BALPA, Unite, Prospect and other unions over the planned reductions in force.
