Aero-TV: Engine Efficiency Boost - Tuned Exhaust by Power Flow Systems

Power Flow Systems Introduces the Latest in Tuned Exhaust Designs

On November 12th, Power Flow Systems announced the debut of its all-new tuned exhaust system for the Beech Bonanza.  Though PFS now has systems on over 3,500 aircraft, the Bonanza will be the company’s first tuned exhaust for a six-cylinder engine.

The new system required a “clean-sheet” design to fit inside the cowling while still providing the necessary length for increased performance. The high performance tuned exhaust will feature Power Flow’s patented components including mandrel bent tubing, cabin heat design, and headers comprised of their own independent slip joints eliminating the need for clamps.

Power Flow systems significantly increase engine efficiency and horsepower by improving exhaust fume evacuation from cylinders; with fuel flow improved, engines are able to run cooler, smoother, and burn less fuel at the same airspeeds as non-modified aircraft.

Initial testing shows an increase in cruise speed by up to seven knots for Bonanza aircraft, resulting in a fuel savings of up to 1.5 gallons per hour.  In addition, the tuned exhaust system shows up to a 15 percent increase in the rate of climb, as well as a service ceiling increase by 2,000 to 5,000 feet.

The company intends on seeking supplemental type certification for the Bonanza’s IO-470, IO-520, and IO-550 engine configurations.  PFS is currently taking deposits from Bonanza owners as part of their Pre-Production Pricing Program, which will save customers up to $1245 off the retail price depending on the number of deposits received.

For those wishing to save more while doing something charitable during the Holiday season, Power Flow Systems has joined up with the U.S. Marines’ Toys for Tots Foundation.  For every $50.00 donated to Toys for Tots by a customer, Power Flow Systems will triple the donation amount in the form of an instant rebate on any new tuned exhaust system.
