The Air Force Space and Missile Systems Center has announced the certification of the SpaceX, Falcon 9 Launch System for national security space missions.

This milestone is the culmination of a two-year effort on the part of the Air Force and SpaceX to execute the certification process and re-introduce competition into the Evolved Expendable Launch Vehicle program. As NASA continues experimenting and testing for flights to Mars, they are also looking at the technology required to travel at supersonic speeds in the Martian atmosphere. The second flight test of NASA's Low-Density Supersonic Decelerator, called the LDSD, now will launch no earlier than June 2nd, from the U.S. Navy's Pacific Missile Range Facility on Kauai, Hawaii. BASE jumping activists seek the unique thrill of skydiving from a fixed object but, as the law now reads, they are not allowed to BASE jump in national parks. A petition website has been launched to rectify what they claim is the unfair application of an existing law. All this... and MORE in today's episode of Airborne!!!
