Big Cajun Airplane Party Comin' Up!

We just got an invitation that sounds too good to pass up: "You know us cajuns like a good party. Throw some airplanes in the pot and here's what you get," it said.

EAA Chapter 541 Welcomes you to Jennings, Louisiana (3R7). Jennings is 35 nm west of Lafayette (LA), and 25 nm east of Lake Charles.

It's a Big 'Un: September 12, 13 & 14

EAA Chapter 541 has teamed up with the Jennings Airport Authority, the City of Jennings, the Jeff Davis Tourist Commission, The Greater Jennings Chamber of Commerce and the Jennings Festival Association to provide you with a weekend you will not soon forget! Join the fun as
Jennings prepares to roll out the red carpet.

Early birds arriving Friday, September 12 will be treated to a Cajun hospitality dinner at the Civil Air Patrol hangar located at the Jennings Airport. The meal includes jambalaya with all the trimmings. Cajun dancers will provide the entertainment. Wear your wing tips... The activities at the CAP hangar are from 6:30 p.m. - 8:30 p.m.

Saturday, September 13 gates open for the general public at 10:00 a.m. and close at 7 p.m. There is no charge to enter the grounds for the festival. Each aircraft flying in and event sponsors receive a custom, signed, limited edition commemorative "CENTENNIAL OF FLIGHT" poster. A card to obtain the complimentary poster will be given to you upon your registration. Remember only one poster per aircraft flying in. (Additional posters will be available for purchase at the event.)

NOTAM: A hospitality tent will be available only to those wearing name badges. So be sure to register upon arrival to get your name badge.

Special Acommodations for Special Aircraft

They are making special arrangements to reserve our JET RAMP for "HEAVIES", vintages and classics. This area can accommodate 13 large aircraft, with several tie downs. The airport has over 100 tie downs available. If turf tie downs are appropriate, please plan on using them. General aviation aircraft, please plan on bringing your own tie downs, as turnout is expected to be substantial.

Pay special attention to NOTAMs issued for this event (the real ones), high traffic volume and special activities. Here are a few notable things that we know about:

  • traffic patterns include three RIGHT HAND patterns.
  • Please monitor 122.8 closely!
  • Runway 13/31 will be closed for takeoff and landing, on Saturday, 9/13, from 10:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. The turf runway 17/35 will be shut down for several one-hour periods, throughout the day for safety reasons.
  • runway 08/26 (5000 FT.) will remain open throughout the event

Upon your arrival & registration at the fly-in, you will receive a copy of the "Gator Gazette", a guide to Jeff Davis Parish. In it is pertinent information about attractions, restaurants, car rentals, etc.

There are hotels and such indoor accommodations all over the area, but note that visiting participants are welcome to camp on site. A shower (1) is available for campers at the Civil Air Patrol hangar. Electricity, though, will not be furnished
