42nd Annual IUAC Ultralight/Light Sport Symposium Announced

Expert Speakers to Grace Granite City Event

The Illinois Ultralight Advisory Council, the Illinois Department of Transportation, Division of Aeronautics, and the Federal Aviation Administration, Springfield FSDO, are presenting the 42nd Annual IUAC Ultralight/Light Sport Symposium. 2024’s event will be held in Granite City, Illinois on Saturday, 25 February. Admission is free. Pre-registration is not required.

Formerly known as the Illinois Ultralight and Light Plane Safety Seminar, the event has been rebranded and relocated.

The Symposium will cover a broad range of subjects. In addition to informative guided discussions, 2024’s IUAC Ultralight/Light Sport Symposium will feature ultralight, engine manufacturer, and accessory displays representing UL/sport/recreational type aircraft.

For over forty-years, thousands of pilots, aircraft owners, and sport aviation enthusiasts have attended the day-long safety symposiums and lent their attention to expert speakers expounding upon all aspects of recreational flying.

The IUAC is an all-volunteer organization dedicated to promoting safe recreational flying. Speakers appearing at the yearly symposium volunteer their time and expertise. All IUAC programs are free. Donations are the organization’s sole source of income.

The IUAC is grateful for contributions by which to offset the costs of hosting the symposium and carrying out its mission.

In 2024, requested contributions include:

  • Raffle prizes: Aviation-related products such as pilot supplies, tools, subscriptions, aircraft accessories, etc. The raffle is promoted throughout the symposium and winners are drawn at day’s end.
  • Door prizes: Hats, T-shirts, logo products, small aircraft accessories, and other promotional gifts. Free door prizes are drawn frequently throughout the day of the symposium.
  • Cash: Naturally, cash is the most direct and helpful means by which to offset the IUAC’s costs vis-à-vis the symposium.

To further incentivize involvement and contributions. The IUAC affords vendors free display spots during the symposium. What’s more, all contributors and sponsors, in addition to being thanked throughout the symposium, will be recognized in IUAC promotional flyers and on the organization’s Facebook page.

Among the speakers slated to appear at 2024’s 42nd Annual IUAC Ultralight/Light Sport Symposium are:

  • Jeff Hurst: Aviation safety and education bureau chief, Illinois Division of Aeronautics.
  • Randy Ottinger: FAA Safety Team program manager, St. Louis FSDO.
  • Dr. Rich Hehmann, MD, FACS: Aviation medical examiner.
  • Greg Gremminger: Gyroplane CFI
  • Clyde Ehrhardt: Owner, Ehrhardt Aviation Agency LLC.
  • Bob Karpinski: President, Gateway Area Ultralight Association.
  • Jon Humberd: Zenith 701 kit airplane project manager.
