Aero-TV: The Surf Air Model - Aviation by Subscription

Surf Air Provides Corporate Aircraft Style Travel Based On a Unique Subscription Plan…

An aviation transportation provider by the name of Surf Air is establishing a new and interesting way for individuals to participate in air travel that is more like corporate aviation, but it doesn’t involve owning the aircraft or being a partner in the aircraft itself.

While at the Business Aviation Convention & Exhibition (NBAA-BACE) held in November 2016, Aero-News Correspondent, Kathryn Creedy, had the opportunity to meet with Jeff Potter, the CEO of Surf Air. Surf Air offers a unique business model that is a transportation subscription service. In other words, members pay a monthly subscription fee that provides the ability to have all the conveniences normally found in corporate air travel, but without the headaches of being an aircraft owner.

In the video, Potter explains that they have both individual customers and corporate customers using their service because of the convenience it offers and the airports they serve. They have built their business with a fleet of Pilatus PC-12 single-engine turboprop airplanes, and plans are in the works for that fleet to grow to 65 of these types of aircraft. However, more growth is expected using executive Jets.

This video provides an interesting insight to a business model that appears to have a bright future in both the U.S. and European markets.
