FAA Approves Archer Part 141 Pilot Program

New Training Academy Moves Forward Formally Recognized

Archer Aviation announced that it received certification from the FAA for its newly-launched Part 141 pilot training academy, enabling  it to begin training and qualifying pilots in an officially approved program to build a pipeline of pilots as it prepares to initiate commercial air taxi services with its Midnight aircraft.

This approval makes the third FAA certification for Archer, the other two being its Part 145 certificate issued in February 2024 and Part 135 Air Carrier & Operator Certificate in June 2024.

Part 145 authorizes Archer as an official Repair Station Operator that is required for OEMs to perform repairs and maintenance on its own aircraft products. Part 135 designates Archer as an air carrier for passenger service for commuter and on-demand flight services.

The Part 141 certificate was presented during a ceremony at the Archer flight test facility in Salinas, California. Archer COO of UAM, Tom Anderson, and Chief People Officer, Tosha Perkins, were accompanied by Thom Holden, Manager of the FAA San Jose FSDO (Flight Standards District Office) and Dave Pease, an FAA Aviation Safety Inspector.

Tom Anderson said, “Thanks to the hard work of the Archer team and the FAA, Archer now has its Part 141 certificate in hand—yet another step towards our commercial launch. I look forward to seeing the results of this effort in the form of talented pilots who can one day be at the controls of our Midnight aircraft. The FAA continues to be an invaluable partner as we work together toward the safe entry of air taxis into the national airspace.”
