Indigo Partners Orders 255 A321neo, A321XLR

Volaris, JetSmart, Frontier, and Wizz to Receive New Aircraft

As the dust settles from the 2021 Dubai Airshow, the biggest winners take stock of their gains as they count the orders and ready the production lines. Airbus came away with an impressive sale of 255 additional A321neo Aircraft to a joint Indigo Partners agreement. The firm order will send aircraft to: Wizz Air of Hungary, America's Frontier, Volaris of Mexico, and JetSMART of Chile and Argentina.

The order is an addition to Indigo Partners' extensive collection of A320 family aircraft, bringing their total to 1,145. The order will be mixed between A321neos and A321XLR's, and includes the provision to upconvert 38 A320neos to A321neo standards from outstanding orders.

The A321neo improves upon the older A320 with newer, next-gen engines and "sharklets" to deliver fuel savings over 25%, carbon emission reductions, and noise reductions of 50%. The A321XLR version extends the range to 4,700 nautical miles and a flight time of 11 hours with no reduction in quality of life for passengers. The newest cabin technology Airbus offers is more comfortable, more technologically modern, and more space-efficient than ever before.

“This order reaffirms our portfolio airlines’ commitment to consistent growth through the next decade. The Airbus A321neo and A321XLR have industry-leading efficiency, low unit costs and a substantially reduced carbon footprint relative to prior models. With these aircraft, Wizz, Frontier, Volaris and JetSMART will continue to offer low fares, stimulate the markets they serve and improve their industry-leading sustainability profile,” said Bill Franke, Managing Partner of Indigo Partners.

The private equity fund, based out of Phoenix, Arizona, focuses on worldwide investment in air transportation. An order of 255 aircraft is enough to get the red carpet treatment at any manufacturer in the industry, and their selection of the A321neo speaks highly of the quality of its service so far.

“We are happy to further expand our relationship with our great Indigo Partners’ airlines Wizz, Frontier, Volaris and JetSMART who have acted fast and decisively over the last few months to position themselves for this landmark order as the effect of the pandemic recedes and the world wants more sustainable flying,” said Christian Scherer, Airbus Chief Commercial Officer and Head of Airbus International.
