Forest Service Approves AEM’s MTP136D Firefighting Radio

Covers All U.S. Federally Regulated Aerial Firefighting Agency, Contractor Aircraft

Anodyne Electronics Manufacturing Corporation announced its MTP136D Panel-Mount Forest Service Radio has been fully approved by the U.S. Forest Service (USFS) and the Department of the Interior (DOI) for use in all agency and contractor aerial firefighting aircraft.

The MTP136D is a Project 25 Phase I compliant VHF FM solution for digital and analog communications on all channels across the 135MHz to 174MHz frequencies. It also meets all USFS communications requirements for use in aerial firefighting in all U.S. jurisdictions.

Tony Weller, AEM’s Sales and Marketing Director said, “This is a big day for aerial firefighting across North America. Already in use in Canada and by some U.S. state-led cooperator firefighting agencies, this USFS approval and acceptance now unlocks the ability for all U.S. federal agencies and contractors on the front lines battling intense and devastating wildfires to have the most up-to-date radio technology at their fingertips.”

AEM gained a Transport Canada Supplemental Type Certificate (STC) for the installation of the MTP136D on all Airbus H125 aircraft after launching the product with its Canadian launch customer Yellowhead Helicopters.

The radio sports a large NVIS-compatible screen that displays all channel and operational information. It was developed in consultation with tactical aerial firefighting agencies to be intuitive to use and able to tolerate demanding environments.

The U.S. approval opens a market of more than 3,000 aircraft capable to be upgraded to the MTP 136D.

Weller continued, “Now that we have the stamp of approval by the USFS, we are rapidly working to assist U.S. agencies, operators and contractors complete their aircraft fleet conversions.”
