TSA Announces $4.6 Million Award For The In-Line
System
The TSA said Thurday it has awarded approximately $4.6 million
to Eagle County Regional Airport (EGE) for construction of a new
in-line baggage handling system.
"This technology will streamline the baggage screening process
while strengthening security," said TSA Federal Security Director
Rene Dhenin. "The state-of-the-art in-line system will make the
screening faster and more efficient, which is great news for
passengers."
The approximately $4.6 million award will fund construction of a
fully automated in-line baggage screening system. The in-line
baggage handling system in the airport will better serve the more
than 200,000 passengers traveling through Eagle Regional each year.
When completed, Eagle will feature 100 percent in-line screening,
greatly improving airport efficiency.
"We feel very fortunate to partner with TSA on this project,"
said Chris Anderson, Eagle County Regional Airport Terminal
Manager. "We are really looking forward to being able to offer this
new passenger service enhancement and airline and security
operational improvement."
In-line baggage handling systems use state-of-the-art technology
to screen baggage for explosives quickly while streamlining the
ticketing and boarding process. This eliminates the need for
passengers to walk checked baggage to a screening location before
proceeding to the security checkpoint. Additionally, the systems
provide on-screen resolution capabilities for security officers
screening baggage which reduces the number of re-scans and physical
bag searches.
