Airborne-Unmanned 01.29.19: No Drone Super Bowl, Pipistrel-Honeywell, EWR Drone?

Also: 'Test Hopper' Damaged, MicaSense, DBF Drone Services, FLIR Nano-UAV Technology

The FAA will establish airspace restrictions affecting UAS operations January 31 to February 3, 2019 centered on Mercedes-Benz Stadium in Atlanta, GA due to pre-Super Bowl and Super Bowl activity.

NOTAMs will be issued depicting a Temporary Flight Restriction (TFR) with all UAS aircraft flight operations prohibited during specified times. AS operations are authorized within the defined SSI airspace if in compliance with published requirements. The FAA recommends that all aircraft operators check NOTAMs OFTEN for mandatory airspace restrictions prior to operations within this region. Pipistrel and Honeywell have signed a memorandum of understanding that will bring both companies together on the exploration and development of solutions for the urban air mobility market. As part of their collective effort, the companies will work together to integrate Honeywell avionics, navigation, flight control systems connectivity, and other beneficial products and services onto a future Pipistrel vertical takeoff and landing air vehicle to support fully autonomous operations in the future. Drone hysteria, much of it not well-verified, continues to light up the news. Reports of a drone flying near Teterboro airport last week caused delays at Newark Liberty International Airport for about 20 minutes. But it may have been just another false alarm. The FAA said that it had been unable to independently confirm that whatever was seen by a Southwest and a United pilot was actually a drone. "We continue to work with local law enforcement to find additional evidence," an FAA spokesperson said. All this -- and MORE in today's episode of Airborne-Unmanned!!!
