COPA: Critical Decision Making Seminar

How To Make The Right Choice In A Tight Situation

The Cirrus Owners and Pilots Association (COPA) has come up with a safety program it thinks just might help a lot of its members. The idea: Decide how to decide.

The COPA Critical Decision Making Seminar (COPA CDM) is designed as a one-day intensive look at general aviation safety, analysis of past accidents - including some Cirrus accidents - and a formal method of creating individualized safety routines for each attendee.

COPA member Mason Holland designed the course. He says, “This course is interactive and we will focus on group discussions where by we can all learn from our fellow members in an organized and structured environment.  We’ve gone to great lengths to make it fun and interesting – this is not another PAVE lecture.”

COPA President Mike Radomsky says, “I’m excited that we have this important new offering for our members.   I hope that every member will make it a goal to attend the CDM course at least annually;  spouses are invited, too.   We’re going to remove every obstacle we can – we’ll conduct CDM seminars as often as possible, in as many places as possible.   Even paying for it is voluntary.  No excuses – let’s see you there!”

The first seminar will be held at Lumberton (NJ) at the Flying W Airport (N14). CDM volunteer Ted Fox will organize the premier event on Saturday, November 29th. The course will normally be held on a Saturday from 10:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. This will allow pilots and spouses to fly or drive to the venue, and return home at a reasonable hour. COPA plans to situate each venue so members can get there within a two-hour flight.

Spouses are invited. Unlike most aviation programs, this program is specifically designed to include participation from pilot spouses.

The seminar is a freebie, but COPA would like donations to help offset the cost. COPA volunteers will donate their time to organize and conduct the course. Course materials and lunch will be provided by COPA.
