AD: Airbus

AD NUMBER: 2007-12-10
MANUFACTURER: Airbus
SUBJECT: Airworthiness Directive 2007-12-10
SUMMARY:
We are adopting a new airworthiness directive (AD) for the products listed above. This AD results from mandatory continuing airworthiness information (MCAI) originated by an aviation authority of another country to identify and correct an unsafe condition on an aviation product. The MCAI describes the unsafe condition as: Two A330 operators have reported uncontained APU (auxiliary power unit) generator failures on ground. In both events, a loud noise was heard, followed by an APU automatic shutdown. Preliminary investigations confirmed an uncontained APU Generator failure with subsequent aircraft structural damages to the APU compartment and, in one case, to the stabilizer compartment. Loose APU generator parts can lead to damage to the APU fire wall which might reduce its fire extinguishing capability, possibly leading to a temporary uncontrolled fire which constitutes an unsafe condition. * * * This AD requires actions that are intended to address the unsafe condition described in the MCAI.
