Update: Details Reported On Risen Bird Strike And Parachute Landing

Porto Aviation Founder, Wife Walk Away With Minor Injuries

As recently reported here, a Risen Superveloce (SV) flying from Alzate Brianza Airport (ICAO: LILB) in Italy to Valtellina Valley on a test flight to replicate previous high performance technical testing, when it was apparently struck by a bird resulting in significant damage to the windscreen and subsequent injuries to pilot Alberto Porto, forcing him to deploy the airframe parachute which brought the aircraft to a safe landing.

Porto, the founder and CEO of Risen, was flying with his wife Sabina David in the right seat and as they maneuvered toward landing at Caiolo, it became clear that due to the injuries, Porto’s visibility was reduced to the point that the two determined the safest course of action was to deploy the emergency airframe parachute.

The parachute deployed successfully and the aircraft landed in trees before settling to the ground. Alberto and Sabina were able to egress the aircraft on their own without assistance, which the two emphasized because some media outlets had reported that they were ‘extracted’ from the aircraft.

The Risen SV’s structure proved reliable in the unexpected parachute landing, and Porto and David received medical attention. While David sustained minor injuries, Porto is reported to be recovering and expected to return to action very soon.

The first Risen prototype aircraft flew in 2012, and to date, more than 50 Risen aircraft have been delivered.
