Aircraft At Van Nuys Airport Vandalized

Vandals Cut Through A Security Fence And Spray Painted Graffiti On Corporate Jets

NBC News reports that vandals broke into a hangar at Van Nuys Airport and sprayed various graffiti messages on three corporate jets. According to the report, this has happened before. Van Nuys Airport is renowned for being the headquarters for numerous corporate airplane operations in the Los Angeles area.

Key airports in the Los Angeles area are assigned police protection dedicated to the airport locations. It’s reported the Los Angeles Airport Peace Officers Association, which is a union representing the airport police, says additional officers are needed to provide improved security. Van Nuys Airport is not the only regional Airport that has experienced problems with unauthorized personnel gaining access. Even Los Angeles International Airport has reported perimeter breaches.

Los Angeles Airport Police Chief, Patrick Gannon, was quoted as saying, "This happened in a darkened area of the airport. We are going to take a harder look at the lighting in the areas where this happened."

It’s reported that one of the aircraft, a Learjet, was vandalized with black spray paint spelling out "Flame" and "R.I.P.", was parked in an overflow area of the ramp.
