British Lynx Pilot Disciplined For Pizza Delivery

And Not Because He Forgot The Cheesy Bread

A British pilot with the 659th Army Air Regiment is in a spot of trouble this week after he flew his Lynx 30-miles off course to deliver a pizza to his girlfriend.

Seems the 25-year old pilot (whom the Army has discreetly decided not to name), based at Suffolk in eastern England, picked up the pizza at a carry-out restaurant before taking off on a flight to practice his map-reading.

He delivered the pie to his gal, then continued with the mission.

British military commanders weren't amused, harrumph, harrumph.

"The opportunity to add a light-hearted element to the planned sortie was taken but with no detriment to the sortie objective," a UK defense ministry spokeswoman told Reuters.

"The chain of command do not condone these actions and have disciplined the individuals concerned."

(We imagine this might have been a lot funnier if the pilot had delivered a cream pie instead of a pizza. But maybe not... -- ed.)
