TransAsia Pilots Required To Take Proficiency Tests

All ATR Pilots Being Checked Out Following Last Week's Accident

Following an accident last week involving an ATR-72 airplane in Taiwan that fatally injured at least 36 people, all 71 TransAsia pilots flying the type have been required to undergo mandatory proficiency testing.

TransAsia canceled 90 flights over three days to give the pilots time to complete the testing that was mandated by the Civil Aeronautics Administration.

Fox News reports that the preliminary information recovered by the CAA in Taiwan indicates that the pilots of the flight that went down shut down a functioning engine after the other engine went to idle.

The CAA said over the weekend that there are still seven people from the flight missing. Fifteen people survived the accident in which the airplane hit a bridge before going into the water.
