Harrison Ford Injured In Forced Landing

Actor, Pilot, And Aviation Advocate Went Down On A California Golf Course

Harrison Ford sustained moderate injuries Thursday when the the  airplane he was piloting ... which appears to be a PT-22 Recruit ...  went down on the Penmar golf course in Mar Vista, CA.

Multiple media sources including NBC News and the New York Daily News report that Ford was conscious and breathing when first responders arrived at the accident scene. The actor suffered multiple gashes to his head, according to the reports, and was transported to a hospital where he was listed in fair to moderate condition.

The plane went down on the eighth tee of the course. He had just taken off from Santa Monica Airport, according to FAA spokesman Ian Gregor.

Ford has been a strong advocate of both general and business aviation, as well as an activist in keeping the Santa Monica, CA airport open. He was presented the NBAA's Humanitarian Award in 2013 for his use of aviation for humanitarian and philanthropic causes. He was also Chairman of EAA's Young Eagles program from 2004 to 2009.

In an interesting side note, a Tweet about the accident from the Los Angeles Fire Department said "1233 Rose Ave* 1 small aircraft down on Penmar Golf Course near the Santa Monica airport. Solo occupant, an adult male being..."

The NTSB has sent a team to begin the investigation.
