FLIGHT Begins To Take Off At The Leonardo

Centerpiece For New Exhibit Has Been Delivered

With just a few weeks to go before The Leonardo opens its newest exhibit, entitled FLIGHT, a major milestone in what has been a project two years in the making has been reached. The first part of the giant C-131 aircraft which will serve as the centerpiece of the new exhibit, was loaded into the museum last week amid fanfare and excitement.

"FLIGHT was a topic that was of interest to us because it captures the imagination like few other topics and because our namesake, Leonardo da Vinci, had a life-long fascination with flying," says Alexandra Hesse, The Leonardo's Chief Executive Officer. "We wanted to create an exhibit that mirrored his passion and drive, and to allow our visitors to taste Flight in a way that also captures their imagination."

The Boeing Company was also in attendance at today's event. "Boeing is celebrating its Centennial this year," said Tara Steele, Boeing Global Corporate Citizenship. "Strategic partnerships like those we have with the Leonardo will help us build a bright workforce and strong communities for the next 100 years. As a company with expertise in engineering and science, we think that the most authentic way we can engage the next generation is to expose students, their families, and educators to real world, hands-on learning experiences, which is exactly what FLIGHT embodies. We are proud of the partnership with the Leonardo and the impact they are making in our community," she said.

Additionally, Matt Rich, VP of Jacobsen Construction, spoke at today's event and said: "For Jacobsen Construction Company, this is and has been a tremendous project for us. We've enjoyed our incredible partnership with The Leonardo and we can't wait to bring the joy of FLIGHT to the people of Utah."

FLIGHT opens on August 6, 2016.
