Broward County May Oust Lynx Air International

Company Is Far Behind On Payments And Fees

Broward County, Florida commissioners will consider a measure next week to evict Lynx Air International from Fort Lauderdale Hollywood International Airport. The county says the company is in violation of its lease.

Since its contract with the county ended over a year ago, Lynx has fallen some $33,000 behind in rent and other payments as well as landing fees. Lynx Air International carries passengers and freight from Fort Lauderdale to the Bahamas, Cuba, and Haiti.

The South Florida Business Journal reports Friday that the motion to be considered by the county commission reads, in part: "During the term of the [lease], Lynx demonstrated an inability to meet their financial obligations when due. As a result, when the [lease] expired on May 7, 2008, the Aviation Department agreed to only enter into a Short Term Lease in order to give Lynx an opportunity to demonstrate its willingness and ability to comply with the financial commitments of the Short Term Lease. However, throughout the term of the Short Term Lease, Lynx failed to meet its financial obligations.”

Fort Lauderdale Airport spokeswoman told the paper that Lynx is a relatively minor player at FLL, amounting to less than one half of one percent of the airport's business so far this year.
