NASA Displays Spin Off Technologies At VA Home Show

Space Exploration House Featured At Tidewaters Builders Assn Spring Show

NASA Langley Research Center will outfit the Space Exploration House featured at the Tidewater Builders Association's Spring Homearama in Virginia Beach beginning Saturday. The house, located in the Eagle's Nest community, will highlight more than 20 commercial products that incorporate NASA developed technologies into their design or manufacture.

A commercial version of Aerogel, originally a high-tech insulation used by astronauts to insulate against the extreme temperatures in space, was used in the construction of the house. Additional commercial products that benefit the public will include such things as light bulbs, cosmetics, clothing, footwear, aeroponic gardening, baby food and more.

Astronaut Susan Kilrain will visit the show on Saturday, May 28, from 1400-1600 EDT. Kilrain, a veteran space shuttle and U.S. Navy pilot, has logged over 3,000 flight hours in more than 30 different aircraft.

Children may build NASA shuttle or airplane models with NASA staff, Saturday and Sunday, June 11 and 12, from 1300-1600. NASA will also host a space photo kiosk and hands-on activities for children.
