Kansas DOT Seeks Deputy Director Unmanned Aircraft Systems

Will Manage State's Strategies For The UAS Industry In KS

The Kansas Department of Transportation is looking for a Deputy Director of Unmanned Aircraft Systems to coordinates, manages, facilitates and provides direction for strategies to develop and support UAS industry and employment in Kansas.

The state posted the job, paying between $70,000 and $75,000 per year, on its employment website.

The person selected for the position will:

  • Pursue activities toward that end including, but not limited to: development of a strategic plan to focus on bringing UAS industry business and employment growth within the state; developing, coordinating and providing direction for partnerships programs and activities with governmental agencies, public and private educational institutions in the state, both military and private sectors and any other appropriate public and private sector organizations.
  • Develop an outreach program to educate both private and public sectors about UAS and the supporting industries in an effort to develop interest and grow understanding for the UAS industry as it relates to the Kansas economy.
  • Coordinates, facilitates, and expedites the use of UAS with state and local law enforcement, firefighters and other emergency responders in Kansas.
  • Prepare a state plan for the overall development of the UAS industry and supporting industries in the state of Kansas.

The state says that four years of experience in planning, organizing, and directing the work of a department, program, or agency are required. Education may be substituted as determined relevant by the agency.

It would prefer a person with 3-6 years of industry experience in Aviation and or Unmanned Aircraft Systems (UAS). A BS or BA in the related field preferred but not mandatory.
