Aero-Terms!

Aero-Terms are designed to be a daily reminder of the terms, names, acronyms and explanations of the unique language that populates the aviation world. Aerospace, sport aviation, fixed wing, helo, you name it... it's all fair game.

Aerodynamic Blockage Thrust Reverser

Say that fast three times. A form of thrust reverser used on turbojet or turbofan engines. Thin airfoils or obstructions are placed in the engine's exhaust stream to duct the high velocity exhaust gases forward. The forward-flowing gases create a large amount of aerodynamic drag to decrease the landing roll of the aircraft. Often seen on older commercial airliners (737-200s, DC-9s) and a variety of business aircraft.
