Travel Company Guild Backs Heathrow Expansion

Says Travel Industry Support Is 'Massive' For The Project

The CEO of the Guild of Travel Management Companies (GTMC) says support in his industry for an expansion of Heathrow Airport is "massive," compared to support for an expansion at Gatwick.

GTMC CEO Paul Wait made the remarks at the guild's annual meeting, according to Buying Business Travel. Waite said more and more travellers are using hubs outside the UK "because connectivity to the UK regions is not what it should be."

Wait drew his conclusions based on a study of 1,000 business travellers. In that survey, 61 percent reportedly favored expanding Heathrow, and 74 percent say there should be an increase in UK regional airport that connect directly to Heathrow.

A full report on the research will be released by the GTMC at the UK Business Travel Show later this month.
