Potential Sponsors Of New MD Airport Want To Hear From Pilots

Commissioners Need To Know If Facility Would Be Used

Kent Co., Maryland, commissioners are nearing a decision on whether or not to build a new general aviation airport and want to hear from pilot/owners who would be interested in basing their aircraft there. AOPA has strongly supported creation of a new general aviation (GA) airport ever since Scheeler Field closed in 1996.

"This is a big deal," said AOPA Vice President of Airports Anne Esposito. "It's a rare opportunity to build a new airport from scratch, and the sponsors are actively seeking pilot input."

The new airport would be located between Worton and Chestertown, Md. It would have a 4,200-foot paved runway (6-24) and would offer general aviation services, fuel, hangars, and tiedowns.

If approved, the airport would take three to five years to complete.

FMI: If you would be interested in basing your aircraft at Kent County or would like to lend support for the new airport, you are encouraged to write Kent County Commissioners at: 400 High St, Chestertown, MD 21620, fax 410/778-7482 or e-mail kentcounty@kentgov.org.
