Woman Charged In Attack On UAV-Flying Teen Applies For Rehab Program

Can Have Charges Expunged If Program Is Completed Successfully

A 23-year-old Connecticut woman who was charged with attacking the 17-year-old pilot of a quadcopter at a beach has applied for a probationary program that could lead to her charges being erased.

The Hartford Courant reports that Andrea Mears has applied for an "accelerated rehabilitation" program. Her public defender said she is eligible for the program because she has no prior criminal record.

Mears was charged with third-degree assault after she accused Austin Haughwout of invading her privacy on a public beach by operating a quadcopter with a video camera on board. Haughwout recorded the entire incident on his cell phone.

Mears had initially called authorities saying Haughwout had attacked her, but the evidence on his phone was enough to have those accusations reversed. Mears is due back in court July 9.
