JetBlue CEO To Step Down In February

Former British Airways Exec Will Move Into The Position

JetBlue CEO Dave Barger has announced he will step down as the company's president in February, ending long speculation about the airline's leadership.

The Washington Times reports that 48-year-old Robin Hayes, formerly with British Airways, will be put in place as the third CEO in JetBlue's 14-year-history at that time. Hayes joined JetBlue in 2008.

The change coincides with the expiration of Barger's contract with the airline. He has been CEO since 2007, and the carrier has not seen the success that its board had hoped for under his leadership. He said that there was not one particular incident that led to the decision to change leadership. He told the Associated Press that "you just kind of know when you need the next level of ideas, innovation, evolution." He said that the carrier's "best days are ahead."
