FAA Says Witnesses Got it Wrong

Red Chinese 747 Was 'Less Than a Mile' Off-Course

The China Airlines 747 that spooked so many residents of Honolulu's Century Center on Saturday, shouldn't have, the FAA says. Flight 18, from Taiwan and Tokyo, lands in Honolulu at 7:05AM, every Saturday.

On approach to Honolulu's airport, the jumbo passed closer than is normal to the 41-story building, alarming residents, who said they could plainly see the individual passengers' faces as they passed their 12th-story windows. Other residents said it pased directly over the 4th floor recreation center deck.

The FAA said there wasn't anything to worry about, since the plane was less than a mile off-course. Then the spokesman said an investigation would take several weeks. [Why investigate, when their minds are already made up? --ed.]
