In an effort to prioritize progress over bureaucratic malfeisence, New Jersey lawmakers have advanced legislation that would afford airports additional time to apply state funds to much-needed improvements. Currently, airports are obligated to utilize Department of Transportation grants within two years of receiving them. In most cases, however, the interval expires before airport improvement projects are granted requisite local approval or finalize engineering work—especially if community opposition slows the process. Complications and delays notwithstanding, the DOT grants expire after two years.

James Harvey joining the CAF RISE ABOVE traveling exhibit for EAA AirVenture in Oshkosh, Wisconsin from July 24 – 30, 2022. The exhibit will be operating at KidVenture where visitors will be able to view both the RED TAIL RISE ABOVE and RISE ABOVE WASP movies. The Tuskegee Airmen will be at the exhibit for autographs and photos.

NASA Astronauts Prepare for First Crewed Flight of Boeing Space Vehicle

Two astronaut test-pilots will conduct NASA’s first crewed test-flight of Boeing’s Starliner space-vehicle. The mission will take NASA astronauts Barry “Butch” Wilmore and Suni Williams to the International Space Station, where they will live and work in Earth orbit for approximately two-weeks. Wilmore, a veteran of two spaceflights and 178-days in space, will command the mission, while flying duties will be seen to by Williams, herself a veteran of two space missions.

Registration is now open to the expanded Pilot Proficiency Center sessions during EAA AirVenture Oshkosh 2022, to be held in the new EAA Education Center adjacent to the EAA Aviation Museum. These half-day clinics allow pilots to increase their knowledge, hone their abilities, and network with other passionate pilots while helping them become safer and better-informed aviators. H2 Clipper, the Santa Barbara-based, aerospace and alternative energy company, announced that it has completed a simulated wind tunnel test of its hydrogen-powered Pipeline-In-The-Sky airship. The lighter-than-air craft is intended to transport freight, including [possibly] hydrogen supplies for commercial use, in a manner ostensibly seven to ten times faster than shipment via ship or truck and seventy-percent less costly than contemporary air-freight fee schedules.

Summit that it has placed a firm order to convert 75 ATR 72-600 regional airplanes to hydrogen powertrains, with purchase rights for an additional 25 conversions. The private pilot was fatally injured. The airplane was operated as a Title 14 Code of Federal Regulations Part 91 personal flight. A review of preliminary Automatic Dependent Surveillance-Broadcast (ADS-B) data and air traffic control information obtained from the Federal Aviation  Administration revealed that the airplane departed runway 27 at Whiteplains Airport (SC99), Lexington, South Carolina, about 0738.
