6th Generation Improvement to Cockpit Recording Simplifies Data Retrieval
Universal Avionics has shown off their latest in cockpit recording tech, the 25-hour KAPTURE CVR.

The system is a robust cockpit voice and flight data recorder, nominally a 6th generation piece that melds with all the tech operators run up front these days. The CVR/FDR offers readout services with full support for certification, checkouts, and datalink analysis & reporting. That provides easy compliance with EASA, UK CAA, and FAA requirements, all without requiring intense maintenance just to access the info. All readouts are pulled up with a web-based customer portal, allowing for a "hassle-free experience" in the typical cloud-connected fashion. At the end of the day, that grants quicker turnaround whenever someone has to crack open the data. A tech, a laptop, and a wifi connection and things are back ion business. That web portal is the real selling point for the Kapture system, and they're excited to brag about it.
That ease of use isn't all the Kapture brings to the table. Equipped with a capacitor pack in place of batteries, it does away with regular battery maintenance while promising a 10-minute recording time sans external power. The Kapture line does meet EASA mandate for a 25-hour CVR. CVR and CVFDR Kapture models also provide more than 25 hours of alternate data like UTC, rotor speed, and data link messaging on top of it. The Kapture FDR offers 90 hours of ARINC 717 data, but a pair of ARINC 429 ports allows for 25 more hours added to that with expanded integration options. Each model does include one lithium-free 90-day Underwater Locator Beacon, too, with Universal Avionics' patented internal undefended power supply as an optional add-on.
"We're committed to providing comprehensive support, streamlining integration and certification for our flight recorders," said Dror Yahav, Chief Executive Officer at Universal Avionics. "These new Readout Services leverage our deep experience and connected data capabilities to deliver the best possible customer experience."
