Aero-Activism: KISM Pilots Seek To Institute Advisory Board

Petition Requests Airport Advisory Board To Guide Anti-Aviation Officials

After the overlords in the Kissimmee City Government rushed a rule requiring User Fees over the holidays (while they may have hoped that would limit attendance from those pesky pilots that seemed to annoy them so...), there has been a movement to petition the City to institute a Kissimmee Airport Advisory Board to offer, in part, 'expert advice from aviation professionals, residents, and business leaders, the board could provide recommendations to improve operational safety and airport efficiency.'

The proposed board would, "actively attract more investment, tourism, and aviation-related businesses. The board could help explore new opportunities for airport expansion, increased tourism, and business development, making Kissimmee a hub for economic activity."

Utilizing Change.org to seek signatures (for which there are already several hundred) to support this effort, those who proposed the Kissimmee Airport Advisory Board believe, "...the creation of an Airport Advisory Board is a crucial step in ensuring the long-term success, growth, and sustainability of Kissimmee Gateway Airport. By establishing this board, we can strengthen community involvement, promote economic growth, and improve the quality of life for residents while positioning Kissimmee as a key player in the aviation and tourism sectors."

They add that, "We call on the City Council to take immediate action to establish this board to ensure that Kissimmee Gateway Airport serves both the needs of our local community and the broader goals of our city’s economic and social development."

We'll keep you updated the status of this effort and whether the folks in the Kissimmee government actually listen... though our experience in seeking an unrestricted interview with the Airport officials (they have refused to so without preconditions) doesn't fill us with a lot of hope.
