RACCA Names John Hazlet Vice President, Technical Affairs

VP-Safety, Ops Director At Ameriflight Will Advise On Technical Matters

The Regional Air Cargo Carriers Association (RACCA) board of directors has named John W. Hazlet, Jr., vice president-safety and standards and director of operations for Burbank, CA-based cargo carrier Ameriflight, as RACCA's Vice President, Technical Affairs. The association's directors took the unanimous action at their regular meeting in November.

"Since before our association was founded, John Hazlet has been one of our industry's most prolific problem solvers," commented RACCA President Stan Bernstein after the board's vote. "Thankfully, he has brought to RACCA his detailed knowledge of and experience with the everyday operational challenges faced by regional cargo operators."

"His efforts have been instrumental in helping position RACCA as the organization for on-demand cargo operators," Bernstein added.

In this new position for the association, Hazlet will formally become RACCA's lead authority on technical matters, a voluntary role he has gradually taken on in recent years, according to Bernstein. The RACCA directors' action this month formalizes Hazlet's leadership position in the organization, added Bernstein, while recognizing his past contributions.

"I'm honored that RACCA's directors chose to recognize me this way," Hazlet said. "I look forward to continuing our work and association's increasing credibility with the government agencies that regulate our business."

Before joining Ameriflight 23 years ago, John Hazlet served as Director of Flight Operations for TigerAir, the full-service fixed-base operation subsidiary of Tiger International. Earlier positions included Chief Pilot and later General Manager at a large cooperatively owned flying club, flight school and Part 135 charter operation, and Director of Flight Operations at an El Monte, CA-based flight school, charter and aircraft sales organization.

He also has served as captain and first officer aboard a supplemental air carrier's DC-3s and as a professor in charge of the aviation ground school program at Pasadena City College.

In addition to holding several FAA certificates -- including Airline Transport Pilot (ATP), Flight Engineer (Turbojet), Aircraft Dispatcher, Flight Instructor, Ground Instructor, and Aircraft Repairman -- he has served as an FAA Designated Pilot Examiner for more than 30 years and as an ATP examiner for over 20 years. In more than 40 years of accident- and incident-free flying, he has amassed over 20,000 flight hours.
