Upcoming Aircraft Will See First Training System Installed at FlightSafety Wichita
Textron has announced that TRU Simulation + Training has successfully earned Level D qualification from the FAA for its SkyCourier Full Flight Simulator, allowing pilot training to begin.
The aircraft received type certification just one month ago, allowing future operators to hit the ground running as soon as it's delivered. The brand new twin-engine, large-utility turboprop has entered production, with the first unit expected to reach customers in near future. The SkyCourier's sim will be located at FlightSafety's Kansas location, the Wichita East Learning Center. Suitable for a new, clean-sheet aircraft design, the sim is equipped with all the modern niceties expected of a true-to-life trainer, with authentic avionics and interior furnishings as possible.
Students will find the sim's learning environment conducive to building accurate muscle memory and habits, bolstered by realistic exterior visual cues from TRU's REALCue system. The sim uses an electric motion base with 42-inch stroke actuators, with FlightSafety's VITAL 1150 image generation system, topped off with an array of realistic, high-resolution airfield models and high-definition projectors. The sim sports the latest engineering from the manufacturer, boasting their newest TRU frame for configurable seating and IOS arrangement, along with improved, easy access to internal equipment for quicker maintenance access.
“The success of the Cessna SkyCourier simulator program is the result of the collaboration between the Textron Aviation flight test and production teams, FlightSafety International’s courseware and instructor teams and our employees at TRU,” said Jerry Messaris, vice president and general manager of TRU Simulation + Training. “Together, we worked on the design, production, testing and qualification of the simulator to ensure the highest quality training device, and we look forward to pilots utilizing it for many years to come.”
