FDC 7/0729 ZDC VA.. SPECIAL NOTICE. LYNCHBURG, VA. FLIGHT ADVISORY SOUTHWEST/SOUTHEAST QUADRANTS OF LYNCHBURG,VIRGINIA UP TO A DISTANCE OF APPROXIMATLY 60 NAUTICAL MILES EFFECTIVE0710312200 UTC (1800 LOCAL 10/31/07) UNTIL 0711120500 UTC (2400 LOCAL 11/11/07). THE U.S. MARINE CORPS 24 MARINE EXPEDITIONARY UNIT WILL BE CONDUCTING INTENSIVE FLIGHT OPERATIONS IN SUPPORT OF AN ONGOING EXERCISE APPROXIMATELY 15 NAUTICAL MILE RADIUS OF MARTINSVILLE, CHATHAM, SOUTH BOSTON, FORK UNION, CREWE, AND FORT PICKETT, VIRGINIA, AND AN AERIAL REFUELING TRACK APPROXIMATELY BETWEEN THE SOUTH BOSTON VORTAC (SBV) 105 RADIAL, 30 MILE DME TO THE 50 MILE DME. NUMEROUS HELICOPTER FLIGHT OPERATIONS BELOW 500 FEET AGLARE EXPECTED AND HIGH SPEED CLIMB/DESCENT ALTITUDE TRANSITIONS OF AV-8 HARRIERS, F/A-18 HORNETS, AND KC-130 HERCULES WILL BE INCLUDED IN THE EXERCISE. THE AV-8'S AND F/A-18 S MAY EXCEED 250 KNOTS BELOW 10,000 FEET AS AUTHORIZED BY THE FAA. PILOTS ARE STRONGLY ENCOURAGED TO MAINTAIN INCREASED VIGILANCE WHEN OPERATING WITHIN THE ABOVE DESCRIBED AREA.
