Passengers Evacuated From Airliner At Sea-Tac Airport

Fire Broke Out Near An American Airlines Airliner At The Gate

An air-starter unit caught fire near an American Airlines airliner at a gate at Sea-Tac Airport in Seattle Monday morning, forcing the evacuation of all of the passengers boarding the plane.

The Seattle Times reports that the unit which supplies power for engine starts caught fire at gate D7 at about 0830 local time.

Sea-Tac spokesman Perry Cooper said that the air-starter was pulled away from the airplane, and all of the passengers boarding the aircraft were deplaned. There were no injuries, and the fire was quickly extinguished by airport fire personnel.

But, the incident delayed the flight for several hours. Flight 143 was eventually scheduled to depart at 12:18, according to cooper.
