Vietnam Airlines’ MoU Adds to Airbus’s Paris Air Show Customer List

Vietnamese carrier Vietjet recently signed a Memorandum of Understanding with Airbus for a 100-aircraft order, plus an option for 50 more later on. The new A321neo jets will add to the airline’s current fleet of more than 100 Airbus aircraft.

The agreement was inked by Vietjet CEO Dinh Viet Phuong and Benoit de Saint-Exupery,  Airbus EVP of Sales for Commercial Aircraft, on June 17. This makes it just one of many major Airbus orders to kick off the 2025 Paris Airshow, taking place from June 16 to 22 in Le Bourget, France. Polish flag carrier LOT announced a firm deal for 40 Airbus A220-family jets just a day prior to Vietjet’s.

“This new agreement marks a significant milestone in our strategic partnership with Airbus,” explained Vietjet Chairwoman Nguyen Thi Phuong Thao. “These modern and efficient aircraft have been instrumental in Vietjet’s growth, helping us make air travel more accessible and affordable for millions, while strengthening our role as a connector for economic development, cultural exchange and global connectivity.”

VietJet, headquartered in Hanoi, Vietnam, operates a fleet of nearly 100 Airbus jets. It primarily flies the A320 family jets, with around 115 A321-200, A321neo, and A320-200 aircraft now in service. The carrier has made moves to diversify its fleet, solidifying an order for 200 Boeing 737 MAX aircraft. Some of these jets will move to Vietjet’s Thai subsidiary upon delivery.

The airline also recently signed a deal for 20 additional A330-900 widebodies to support its strategic expansion efforts. This doubled its firm orders for A330neo aircraft, used to serve international routes to destinations like Australia, India, and Kazakhstan.

“Our latest agreement comes just weeks after the airline placed an additional order for A330neo widebody aircraft,” said  Benoît de Saint-Exupéry. “Together the A321neo and A330neo will be perfect partners for Vietjet to continue to spread its wings, efficiently matching capacity more closely to demand across its network. The airline will also benefit from the high levels of technical commonality that are unique to latest generation Airbus aircraft.”
