Gulfstream Expands Research & Development Facility

750 Engineers To Work At Larger Center

Gulfstream Aerospace is preparing to significantly increase its research and development department by leasing a new 100,000 sq. ft. building at its Savannah, GA manufacturing facility. Gulfstream expects to bring as many as 750 engineers from other buildings under one roof in the new facility by March of 2006.

"For the past decade, Gulfstream has led the business aviation industry in technological advancements that enhance passenger safety and aircraft reliability and performance," said Gulfstream president Bryan Moss. "With our continued R&D efforts on advanced avionics, advanced cabin technologies, synthetic vision and sonic boom suppression, we expect this expansion will allow us to maintain our market leadership in this industry."

The manufacturer, a wholly-owned subsidiary of General Dynamics, leased the new building for five years, according to a company press release.

"Since we first opened our doors in Savannah 38 year ago, our business has grown significantly. In fact, we’ve added four other manufacturing sites and eleven service center sites located throughout the United States as well as a service center in England," said Moss.

"Now it’s time to expand our research and development organization. Both the Georgia Department of Economic Development (GDED) and the Savannah Economic Development Authority (SEDA) were instrumental in our selection of Savannah as the site for this expansion," he said.

Gulfstream employs approximately 7,000 people, of which rougly 5,200 work at the company’s Savannah facility.
