State-Of-The-Art Common Automation Platform To Replace Legacy Systems

The FAA has issued a Request for Information (RFI) regarding the initiative of the Trump Administration and U.S. Department of Transportation S. Duffy to design, build, and deploy a brand-new Air Traffic Control System. This Request represents the first step in developing a Common Automation Platform, or CAP, that is intended to replace legacy systems with a state-of-the art platform.

The FAA is receptive to new ideas, technologies, procurement strategies, and implementation frameworks to replace the existing ERAM (En Route Automation Modernization) and STARS (Standard Terminal Automation Replacement System) systems.

The agency is interested in solutions for 1) extending and re-architecting existing ERAM and STARS automation assets, and 2) an Operationally Proven Platform approach based on a platform already documented in operational use by domestic or international air navigation service providers. The FAA will consider responses that describe both approaches separately or hybrid solutions that combine elements of both.

The FAA seeks responses from vendors that can deliver the majority of operational capability that already exists in its enroute and terminal domains.

The agency notes that this RFI is not a commitment to issue additional requests for information or proposals. No unsolicited proposals will be sought or accepted. Additionally, costs associated with preparing responses to this RFI are to be incurred by the vendor, and the agency will not pay for any information received or the costs associated with any response to this RFI.
