Buffalo Airways Back In The Freight Business

Restrictions Imposed By Transport Canada Lifted Tuesday

Transport Canada has lifted the suspension it had placed on Canadian airline Buffalo Airways November 30, clearing the way for the carrier to resume operations.

The Hay River Hub reports that the suspension was lifted January 12 at about 4 p.m. local time. General Manager Bruce Jonasson said that the change means "we're going back to work."

The company will ramp back up beginning with cargo flights by its signature fleet of DC-3 airplanes. That will likely happen in a few days, according to Jonasson. But getting back to carrying passengers will take a little longer, he said.

Transport Canada spokeswoman Amber Wonko said in an emailed statement before the suspension was lifted that the suspension would be lifted "when Buffalo Airways has adequately addressed our safety concerns.” Jonasson said the company had worked hard to address specific concerns pointed out by Transport Canada, and had hired a consultant to help it address those issues.

A timeline for resuming passenger flights has not been established.
