Red Eyes On The Red Eye

Man Disrupts AirTran Flight

Salvatore Dilapi, of New York, apparently turned from ordinary drunk to "plane" drunk on June 15 when the 38-year old demanded more alcohol to finish his Palm Beach-bound AirTran flight.

Dilapi was charged with interfering with the flight crew on the Thursday night flight from New York. The allegedly intoxicated Dilapi walked to the front of the plane when they told him he'd had enough.

CBS-4 in Palm Beach says the disruptive passenger returned to his seat only after the crew threatened to divert the plane to Jacksonville.

Dilapi is now being held at Palm Beach County Jail.

After an auspicious 2005, this year has already shown a variety of new ways for people to act like idiots when under the influence of alcohol -- and near airplanes. With incidents ranging from an inebriated stroll across a busy runway at Chicago Midway, to commercial pilots suspected of being intoxicated in India and London, to inebriated drivers plowing into vintage planes in Juneau, AK and Redding, CA... frankly, Aero-News laments we still have six more months to go in the year.

Let's be careful out there, people. (And, maybe, just a little smarter.)
