New MRO Breaks Ground At Alabama's Pryor Field

Aleut Real Estate Develops Hangar With Strata-G Solutions

Aleut Real Estate and its sister company Strata-G Solutions broke ground on a new $32.7 million state-of-the art hangar facility at Pryor Field Regional Airport (KDCU) in Decatur, Alabama. The hangar, expected to be finished in early 2027, will be primarily used for MRO (maintenance, repair, and overhaul) services for military and commercial aircraft.

Strata-G Solutions is a Huntsville, Alabama,-based defense engineering and manufacturing company. Both it and Aleut Real Estate are wholly-owned subsidiaries of Aleut Corporation, is based in Anchorage and is one of the original 13 Alaska Native corporations established under the Alaska Native Claims Settlement Act passed by Congress in 1971.

Skoey Vergen, President and CEO of Aleut said, “This groundbreaking reflects Aleut’s focus on intentional growth built on strong partnerships. As demand for aviation and defense infrastructure grows across Alabama, Aleut Real Estate and Strata-G Solutions are delivering capabilities that support regional economic progress and national defense readiness.

He added, “This project is made possible through close collaboration with Limestone County and the State of Alabama.”

Work on the site is beginning immediately with new infrastructure such as new roads and upgrades of existing roadways, to be financed by $776,400 in funding from the state. The facility is anticipated to create 50 new jobs within three years.

The hangar will accommodate aircraft with wingspans longer than 130 feet, large enough to support clients such as Boeing and all branches of U.S. military as well as Customs and Border Patrol.

Alabama Gov. Kay Ivey said, “Today’s groundbreaking is yet another sign that Alabama is charting a strong course in aviation and defense. Aleut Real Estate’s investment at Pryor Field not only brings high-quality jobs to Limestone County, but it also strengthens our state’s role in national security and aircraft readiness. We are proud to welcome Aleut as partners in Alabama’s continued growth and leadership in these critical sectors.”
