St. Cloud, MN Mayor Says 2013 Air Show Should Cost Less Than 2010

Costs Of Initial Organization Won't Apply To This Year's Event

Holding an air show in 2010 means it will be less expensive to hold an air show in 2013. That's the assessment of St. Cloud, MN, Mayor Dave Kleis, as he pushes forward for plans for the event this summer.

Kleis told the St. Cloud Times that the planning that was done for the 2010 show will make planning for the 2013 show much easier. "A lot of things won't have to be reinvented," he said.

More than 70,000 people reportedly attended the June 2010 air show at Minnesota's St. Cloud Regional Airport (KSTC), which was supported by Townsquare Media. Prior to that event, the city made improvements to the airport, which will not have to be done again. When it was all accounted for, the airport improvements, staff time for planning, and security totaled about $161,000, which was covered by the sponsor.

This year, the Central Minnesota Council of the Boy Scouts of America will be putting on the event, and will reimburse the city for the costs it incurs under a contract with the city. Any proceeds after expenses will benefit the council.

The Navy's Blue Angels will be headlining the event , which is set for July 20 and 21.
