SmartSky Raises Additional Capital

Aviation Broadband Wi-Fi Service Launch Is Pending

SmartSky Networks has closed on more than $32 million in additional equity and debt funding as it prepares for the launch of its next-generation aviation Wi-Fi connectivity service later this year.

"In a display of confidence in the future of SmartSky's groundbreaking technology and services, we received new funds from our institutional investors," said SmartSky CEO David Helfgott.

SmartSky's office-grade inflight Wi-Fi service for business and commercial aviation uses the pioneering company's uniquely scalable, single-beam-per-aircraft approach, which is backed by a substantial patent portfolio and years of flight testing. Building on this transformative capability, the company is enabling advanced new applications through Skytelligence, its digital innovation platform, to improve safety and efficiency while providing the industry with new ancillary revenue sources.

SmartSky is rolling out its air-to-ground network in 2021. The network takes advantage of patented spectrum reuse, advanced beamforming technologies and 60 MHz of spectrum for significantly enhanced connectivity. SmartSky's network enables an "office in the sky" experience with unmatched capacity for data transmissions both to and from the aircraft. This real-time, low latency, bidirectional data link makes SmartSky the best in-flight user experience, and a key enabler for new and enhanced applications and services.
