Coalition Urges Trump To Optimize FAA And ATC Efficiencies

Notes Process Reforms And Funding Needed To Maintain World’s Safest

A coalition of nearly 30 groups spanning every sector of America’s aerospace and aviation industry has sent a letter to President-Elect Donald J. Trump urging his administration to work with the industry to create new efficiencies in the FAA that maintain the country’s position as having the safest national airspace system in the world.

The group wrote to express its continued support to ensure that the United States has the safest, most resilient and modernized air traffic control system (ATC).

The nation’s ATC system is a critical infrastructure component of the nation’s economy by maintaining safe transportation for both passengers and cargo that together comprise more than 5% of the gross domestic product of the U.S.

As such, it is imperative that the administration works with industry representatives as well as those within the FAA and ATC agencies to find ways to reform processes to cut costs and increase the efficiency of procuring and deploying ATC technologies and equipment, modernize facilities and realign them to improve operational efficiency, and address staffing shortages and ensure optimal deployment of personnel.

Obviously, stable and predictable funding with assured multi-year budgeting are essential considerations to strategically manage and deploy FAA and ATC assets.

The letter concludes with a commitment to work with the administration: “Our organizations believe the areas we have outlined will ensure the FAA is more capable and prepared to deliver economic growth, foster American innovation, adapt to challenges, and continue to manage the safest, largest, and most complex air traffic control system in the world. We stand ready to work with you and your administration.”
