Gogo Receives Gulfstream STC For Plane Simple Ka-Band Terminal

Covers Gulfstream GV and G550, Adds To G650 And G650ER Models

Gogo announced it has received FAA Supplemental Type Certification approval for its Plane Simple Ka-band tail-mount terminal for the Gulfstream GV and G550 models, adding to the G650 and G650ER aircraft already secured in rollout of the antenna series.

Gulfstream collaborated with Gogo to develop the STC at its Savannah, Georgia headquarters. The terminal optimizes the SD Modem Unit integrated with the SD Gateway Router to effectively distribute high-speed broadband to crew and passenger devices. The Ka-band hardware can be installed at any authorized Gulfstream and Jet Aviation service centers.

Work is currently focused on aftermarket STCs for Gulfstream G500 and G600 models and are expected to be completed by the end of the year.

Moore added, “At the same time, forward compatibility with Viasat’s next-generation GX satellites helps operators to future-proof their connectivity fit, which is complemented by the added value delivered through the Gogo ecosystem, including expert global customer support, unparalleled cybersecurity services, and a connectivity portfolio designed to evolve with the changing connectivity landscape.”

The Ka-band antenna connects with the Jet Connex service through existing Viasat GX satellites, and is the first terminal in business aviation that is compatible with the Viasat next-generation GX satellites. The dual-polarity signals provide double the amount of data volume to enhance the connectivity that supports video conferencing, streaming, and higher network priority for bizav users.
