Aero-TV At Oshkosh 2009: C-130 At AirVenture - A Look at the MAFFS Unit

C-130 Hercules Arrives at AirVenture

The 302nd Airlift Wing, Air Force Reserve Command, C-130 Hercules showcased its state-of-the-art technology.  The upgrade featured several improvements to the older, outdated MAFFS system.

The new "MAFFS II" unit, certified this year for use, allows the C-130 cargo aircraft to conduct more effective firefighting tactical operations.

C-130s equipped with the upgraded unit can drop up to 3,000 gallons of retardant in mere seconds.  The 302nd Airlift Wing is the only Air Force Reserve Unit tasked with the MAFFS unit.

Equipped C-130s will provide additional support capabilities during increased wildfire activity as a relief service to civilian airborne fire fighting units.
