Damaged Assessed In NJ FAA Facility Fire

Estimated Costs For Repair And Cleanup Top $2.2 Million

A fire at an FAA airport technical center in New Jersey earlier this year caused an estimated $2.2 million in damage, according to the agency.

In a report issued Tuesday, the FAA the estimate was a total for emergency response, cleanup, the installation of a temporary roof, and some demolition work at the William J. Hughes Technical Center in Egg Harbor Township in NJ, according to a story appearing in The Press of Atlantic City.

The FAA describes the center as one of the nation's premier aviation research, development, test and evaluation facilities. Its world-class laboratories and top-notch engineering place the Technical Center at the forefront of the FAA's challenge to modernize the U.S. air transportation system. The Technical Center serves as the FAA national scientific test base for research and development, test and evaluation, and verification and validation in air traffic control, communications, navigation, airports, aircraft safety, and security. The Technical Center is the primary facility supporting NextGen.

The fire occurred on June 22. It is under investigation, but it is not believed to have been deliberately set.
