Primary Flight Displays Now Standard Equipment on EVERY
Aircraft
The juggernaut continues
as our joke about Cirrus Design's plans for world domination don't
look so ridiculous anymore... these folks are definitely out to
grab market share... lots and LOTS of it.
In addition to their surpise announcment of a new airpklane, the
SRV, Cirrus Design seesm intent on strengthening its
leadership position by becoming the first personal aviation
manufacturer to build every production aircraft with a Primary
Flight Display (PFD), as well as a Multi Function Display
(MFD), as standard equipment. This dramatic
advancement in standard cockpit layout coincides with the
introduction of the SRV, a new VFR-only aircraft set to debut at
the Oshkosh AirVenture, July 29, 2003.
The company is so committed to the concept of an "all glass
cockpit" that it is making the Avidyne FlightMax Entegra PFD
standard equipment on every model. "PFDs have long been available
in very high-end corporate, commercial and military aircraft. We
think all pilots deserve to fly with the same advanced technology,"
said Cirrus President and CEO Alan Klapmeier. "We recognize that
21st Century technology in the form of a 10.4" Primary Function
Display supported by another 10.4" Multi Function Display makes
flying safer and more intuitive by improving situational
awareness."
The all glass fleet is the realization of a dream for Klapmeier
and this brother, Dale, co-founders of Cirrus. For over a decade,
they have worked in concert with the leaders in the avionics
industry to design and shape how pilots navigate and communicate in
the next generation of personal aircraft. In fact, it was Cirrus
that advocated for a landscape orientation on the screen on the
Avidyne FlightMax Entegra PFD so the full screen horizon
line would sufficiently simulate an actual horizon.
The result in shifting to an all glass fleet is a fundamental
change in the way pilots obtain and process information. According
to Klapmeier, the all glass cockpit gives information to pilots in
a manner that is easier to interpret. "Advancements like an all
glass cockpit is another leap forward in personal aviation that
enables Cirrus pilots to fly safely and get the most out of their
aircraft."
Making the PFD standard in all Cirrus aircraft means that the
Avidyne PFD is available to VFR pilots in the new SRV for a base
price of $189,00 and in the SR20 for IFR pilots for a base price of
$229,700. The highest performance SR22 with the Continental
IO-550 and standard PFD/MFD panel has a base price of $313,900.
Cirrus Design manufactures and markets personal aviation
composite four-seat aircraft, incorporating advanced technologies
that result in high levels of performance, safety and comfort.
Cirrus Design Corporation is based in Duluth, Minnesota, with
an additional facility in Grand Forks, North Dakota.
